Extended description :
The Mulberry (Morus) is a plant linked to the Lombard tradition, famous for its role in the breeding of silkworms. Despite its historical importance, in the last 100 years its presence in the Lombard countryside has drastically decreased, making the centuries-old specimens rare.
Originally from Asia, it is now perfectly integrated into the local ecosystem, supporting the native flora and fauna.
Its fruits are a fundamental resource for local birds, while its dense foliage provides an ideal shelter for nesting. The mulberry also offers delicious fruits for humans, which can be eaten fresh, dried or transformed into jam.
Its leaves, rich in proteins, are excellent for grazing animals. A fast-growing, long-lived plant of great ecological value.
