Air Fryer Chicken Nuggets: Quick and Healthy

The beautiful season calls for dishes based on white meat, decidedly less demanding than red meat, but every now and then we get the desire for that dish that is not particularly slim-friendly but definitely for taste and fun in preparing it. Everyone loves chicken nuggets or (Italian style) fried chicken nuggets: small, tasty, easy to prepare, the typical fingerfood loved by adults and children. But, given the beautiful season, how do you prepare super crispy and tasty chicken nuggets while also taking your figure into consideration? Simple, the air fryer is the perfect compromise for cooking tasty dishes and using only a minimal part of oil compared to the pan.

The air fryer is perfect for cooking many dishes in a healthy way and super crispy fried foods that seem to have been fried in a lot of oil. Here the recipe for chicken nuggets with the air fryer that we propose is perfect for cooking dishes that in theory we would call Junk food but in a super healthy way. If we then use the certified Italian meat that you can find in our online butcher's shop, success and goodness will be guaranteed.

Air fryer chicken nuggets are super fun to make and can be combined with so many different spices and ingredients. A pinch of spicy chilli pepper for a Mexican dinner, some aromatic herbs to taste for a DOC Italian flavour, an onion or shallot for a taste that recalls grandma's cooking, in short, the more imagination you have, the more success is guaranteed.

The recipe for chicken nuggets with air fryer

Chicken nuggets ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken breast or ready-made chicken breast pieces
  • 3 slices of bread
  • 1 egg
  • spices to taste (paprika, rosemary, thyme)
  • Salt and Pepper To Taste
  • 00 flour to taste
  • corn flakes or breadcrumbs to taste
  • EVO oil to taste

Air fryer chicken nuggets method

Cut the chicken breast into strips or take the ready-made chicken pieces and put them in a mixer together with the crumbled bread, the chosen spice mix, 1 egg yolk, salt and pepper to taste.

Let's now prepare small nuggets of meat with the mixture, trying to make them all the same size. Let's now create a light batter with 00 flour and water and prepare the breading with chopped corn flakes and breadcrumbs or just one of the two ingredients.

We pass each nugget in the water and flour batter and then in the crunchy breading (just one pass will be enough). In the meantime, preheat the air fryer to 200°C and spray the basket with EVO oil (preferably with cooking spray) or add a small amount and distribute well.

Now place the chicken nuggets in the fryer basket, being careful not to put too many at once, in any case try not to let the nuggets touch each other. Some fryers offer the possibility of making multiple layers alternating with special paper.

Sprinkle the nuggets with a little EVO oil. Now cook the chicken nuggets in the air fryer for about 10 minutes at 200°C, stir halfway through cooking and cook for the remaining 5 minutes. Remember to always follow the specific instructions for your appliance.

Remove and serve with sauces of your choice. If you want to freeze them, the advice is to do so before cooking. In the classic pan version, after having breaded them, all you need to do is fry them in plenty of hot seed oil.
